Google Redesigned

Google Redesigned is a Mozilla Firefox extension designed by Globex Designs that aims to fully redesign the look and feel of popular Google services. This is achieved with Cascading StyleSheet (CSS) files which are loaded on the client's browser. The extension simplifies the use of these styles by providing auto-updates, easy management and notifications of changes. You can also download and use the styles individually by going to their respective pages.

Browser Incompatible

Sorry, but your browser is not compatible with this project. Please download Firefox and come back to this page.

About Google Redesigned

Google Redesigned originally started as a single CSS file which tried to redesign Google's Gmail service. It has since grown to incorporate other various Google services and pages. Previously users of these styles would have to rely on other extensions such as Stylish, Greasemonkey or Web Developer to load these styles onto their browser which caused problems with updates, bug submission and version tracking. The Google Redesigned extension aims to solve all those problems by offering the popular Globex Designs styles in a single, self-updating extension.

Google Redesigned is built for Mozilla based browsers (Firefox, Flock, IceWeasel, and such). Users using other browsers will not be to install the extension. Firefox 3 and Flock 2 are highly recommended as certain styles will not work correctly on older versions of the Gecko engine. As well the Firefox 3 engine provides much faster performance for handling these styles.

This is an open source project, which means we welcome all suggestions, comments and bug reports. You can submit your feedback at the Google Redesigned Forums. The Extension and all the Google Redesigns styles are licensed under the GPL license.

Globex Designs and Google Redesigned are not officially affiliated with Google or any Google products. The Google name and logo are trademarks of Google Inc.

How to Use

Using the extension is very simple. After you install the extension and restart your browser - everything is already setup for you. As soon as you visit a Google service which has a style associated with it, the extension will automatically download the latest version of the style and load it. You should also notice a small Google Redesigned Google Redesigned Icon icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. From here you can do a few things:

To check for new updates to styles manually you can press the "Check for Style Updates" button. This will let you know if any styles updates are available and if they are, the styles will be installed. If you don't click the button, the extension will automatically check for updates on a daily basis and install them for you.

From the menu you'll also be able to enable and disable the individual styles which are available. You can also view their Source, Change Logs and Submit Bug Reports to the Globex Designs forums.

Latest Release Notice

Hello everyone,

Today Globex Designs is proud to introduce a brand new product - Google Redesigned - a brand new Firefox extension to manage all our Google Redesigned styles. Yes, you heard right, Gmail Redesigned and Gcal Redesigned are now available in a stand-alone Firefox extension.

This means you no longer need to manually run updates for styles, sort through CSS code and copy/paste changes. It also means we are no longer dependent on the Stylish add-on, so you can easily create Gmail Redesigned customizations by creating you own userstyles inside of Stylish and not worry about conflicts. It also means that you'll receive instant notifications when new style updates are released, and what's more - they'll be installed for you automatically. And of course, it also means more speed improvements, as we now load all the styles on your local machine.

Get it now at: http://www.globexdesigns.com/gr

As well, those of you who have been checking the forums and the website for information about upcoming Google Redesigned projects such as the Greader Redesigned script will now automatically receive the extension update when new styles are released.

This extension would not be possible without the help and dedication of Cotcaro Newano who has generously offered his extension development services throughout the last few weeks. We would like to ask all of you to send him a big "Thank You" for all his amazing work.

Although the extension will work on Firefox 2, Flock, and Songbird, we strongly recommend the Firefox 3 browser for best performance and reliability.

Let us know what you think about the new extension in our forums.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Google Redesigned FAQ

Q: I don't understand, what is this?
A: Google Redesigned is a Firefox extension which is used to load the various styles that are developed by Globex Designs which aim to redesign various Google services. Basically it changes the way certain Google website look, but doesn't affect their functionality in any way.

Q: How do I get this thing to work on Internet Explorer, Opera or Safari?
A: Google Redesigned is a Firefox-only extension. It will only work with browsers developed on the Gecko platform, such as Mozilla Firefox, Flock, IceWeasel, etc.. The styles themselves also rely heavily on Mozilla-based CSS values which will not work correctly in other browsers.

Q: When I press "Check For Style Updates" it says no updates are available, but the website says a new version has been released for a style. What's going on?
A: It's possible that your styles have already been automatically updated by the extension. You can check this by comparing the version numbers. If they don't match it's also possible that the extension simply hasn't recognized the update to the style just yet. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the extension to notice that an update has been made to the style. Try to check for updates again in a few minutes.

Q: How do I disable a style?
A: If you click or right-click the extension's icon in the bottom right corner of your browser, go into the style you wish to disable and click on its name, you will notice that the little check mark will disappear and the style will be disabled. If you wish to re-enable the style click on the name again - the check mark will appear and the style will be loaded.

Q: There is something broken with one of the styles, what can I do?
A: We're usually very quick when it comes to fixing bugs. First thing, make sure you've got the latest version of the styles. Check for style updates to see if a new version is released which fixes the issue. If the issue still remains, submit a Bug Report on our forums (registration is required) and we will try to address the issue as soon as possible.

Q: Something is broken with my extension. The style names no longer show up and when I click on "Check For Style Updates" nothing happens?
A: This problem occurs when the browser has crashed or been closed during an automatic update. To fix the issue you will need to uninstall and then reinstall the extension.

Q: What can I do to help the project?
Submit bug reports, feature requests, promote the extension on your blog or website, tell your friends, send a Paypal donation, email Google reps and ask them to hire me as their new user interface designer smile.gif
